Buddy is a lifelong practicing Catholic Christian who grew up in PRP in the south end of Louisville as the oldest of 7 children to Tom and Peggy Ray. His whole family was extremely involved at St. Clement Catholic Church, where he and his siblings attended grade school. Buddy graduated from Bishop David High School in 1977. He then graduated from the University of Louisville in 1981 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Buddy has earned the Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and Chartered Global Management Accountant professional designations. He has worked in many types of organizations including Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, Louisville Gas & Electric, H.D. Smith Drug Distribution Company, as CFO of YMCA of Southern Indiana, as Director of Finance and Administration at St. Patrick Catholic Church Louisville, as CFO at PSST Seamless Data Solutions, and at the City of Jeffersonville. Buddy moved from Louisville, KY in 1994 after marrying a Hoosier, Margaret (Waiz) Ray. Marg’s first husband Garry Leach passed away unexpectedly at an early age, so Buddy was very blessed to adopt and help raise as his own their 2 young children Brian and Sarah. They lived in Sellersburg for 22 years and attended Mass and other activities often at St. Joe Hill. They were officially members of Holy Family Parish where the kids attended grade school before both graduating from Our Lady of Providence High School. Buddy and Marg moved to a Jeffersonville patio home on Utica Pike in 2016, right across from the Ohio River where they live currently. Buddy has also served in various capacities for the church, including parish, finance, and athletics councils, lectoring, coaching, officiating, and administering athletics. He refereed and coached high school and grade school basketball in Indiana and Kentucky. He was Director of Athletics for the New Albany Deanery from 2000-2009. Buddy and Marg felt called to join St. John Paul II as official members in May 2019, and Buddy began serving on the Finance Committee.
